Meet Bernie Oravec, Publisher of Barash Media
Bernie is the the publisher of Barash Media in downtown State College, Pa. Barash Media is the publisher of the popular Town and Gown Magazine since 1966. They also publish The Centre County Gazette, our community newspaper with a distribution of 13.600 weekly editions. Other Barash Media Publications include: Penn State Football Annual, Central PA Festival of the Arts Official Program, Neighborhoods, CBICC Guide to Centre County, Bellefonte Visitors Guide, Penn State Winter Sports Annual and over 20 additional high-quality publications showcasing our region.
About Bernie Oravec
Bernie has been a resident of State College since 2004 and is a graduate of Penn State University. He and his wife, Diane, share their home with their three rescue cats. Bernie enjoys music and is a talented, life-long drummer and percussionist. That’s Bernie on the drums playing for a Penn State Tailgate! He also served as a concert promoter for Beatles drummer, Ringo Starr!
An advocate of the First Amendment in Pennsylvania, the public’s right to know, open records, and greater government transparency, Bernie has provided testimony before House and Senate committees on the issue. Bernie says: “An informed and engaged public is the difference between freedom and tyranny.”

Bernie brings to Barash Media over 27 years of newspaper experience, including the past ten years with Ogden Newspapers, as publisher of Williamsport Sun-Gazette.
Bernie Oravec is a member of The State Theatre, Bellefonte Historical Railroad Society, and the Penn State Alumni Association.
