Bridge of Hope has a unique ministry model: a three-way partnership among families facing homelessness, church-based Neighboring Volunteers trained to provide practical support and encouragement, and professional staff. Today, 19 Bridge of Hope locations are active in 11 states across the country.
“The best part of my work is connecting with a family so that they feel we have empathy and offer non-judgmental support.” ~ Tirzah Gibboney

Tirzah’s path to becoming the director of Bridge of Hope in State College, Pa. was an eclectic adventure. While attending Cairn University in Philadelphia she met her husband, Steve and married him in 2005. Steve was a youth minister looking for a job and, influenced by his parents landed a job in the mountains of Northern Thailand. Tirzah shipped some clothes and her favorite books and flew to Chiang Mai, Thailand with her new husband where she was hired to work for an international church that served more than 40 countries.

During her five years working in Thailand, she became an organizer of spiritual events through fundraising and implementation. A highlight of her life abroad were her mission trips to the hill-tribe villages of China, and India, and ministering to third culture kids. Tirzah gained exceptional experience working with expatriates, the churches and the international businesses that guided her passion to make the trips a reality. Her focus was specifically on: Girls Ministry, Event Organization, Fundraising and International Travel Management.

Upon return home to the USA and settling in Bellefonte, Pa. where her parents retired, Tirzah’s family grew when she adopted her daughter Lisa who was then six years old in 2014. Tirzah has focused her passion and energy into encouraging and empowering women. When a local church need a group to volunteer for the Bridge of Hope, Tirzah accepted the opportunity and grew into the director.
